An SEO consultant for Montreal businesses, working remotely

Montreal is bilingual and this page is only half of it. The English first page is thinner than a city this size should produce, and the answer is that I cannot tell you how much of the demand sits in French.

What the first page actually looks like

Measured with Google's location set to Montreal on the date above, in English. A consultant's site holds first. Semrush's directory sits at two and Clutch at six, so two of the first six results are listings rather than businesses. At eight there is a French page ranking the top thirty SEO experts in Montreal, the only result on the page written for the other half of this market.

The tenth result is the United Nations Environment Programme's page about the Montreal Protocol. Google has run out of relevant pages by position ten, which happens on queries where part of the real answer lives in another language.

The English phrasings carry about 400 searches a month here, against 3,600 in Toronto. The city is not nine times smaller. The English query is.

What I cannot measure, and will not pretend to

I tried to size the French demand and could not. Google Ads groups close variants, so consultant seo montreal returns the same figure as seo consultant montreal, and expert seo montreal the same as seo expert montreal. The tool reports the pair, not the language.

So the sentence you will read on other sites, that most Montreal search demand is French, may well be true and I have not proved it. What I can see is that one French result ranks on the English page, and that the numbers here are low for the size of the city.

If you know this market properly and I have it wrong, I would like to hear it.

What I can and cannot help with here

I work in English. For an anglophone business in Montreal selling to an anglophone or national market, that is fine. For a business whose customers are francophone, hire somebody who works in French, and not somebody who will translate the pages afterwards, because translated content reads like translated content and Quebec's language requirements are not a marketing preference.

Useful things I can do here: national and English-language work, ecommerce, software, professional services selling across Canada, and technical problems that have nothing to do with language.

Also second opinions. If a French agency is doing the work and you want an independent read on whether the plan makes sense, that is advisory work and language is not a barrier to it.

The page as I recorded it, 2026-09-21

Organic results only, measured for "seo consultant montreal" in English on desktop, with Google's location set to Montreal. Positions move. This is a dated snapshot, not a claim about today.

Questions from Montreal businesses

Do you have an office in Montreal?
No. I work from Collingwood, Ontario, and I will not list an address I do not occupy. A virtual office used to win a map ranking is grounds for a Google Business Profile suspension, and it is the kind of shortcut that costs a client their listing rather than me my fee.
Can you get my business into the Montreal map pack?
If your business has a real address or service area there, yes, that is ordinary local SEO work and I do it. If you are asking whether I can rank a business in Montreal that has no presence in Montreal, the answer is no, and anyone who says otherwise is describing fraud.
What does it cost?
The same as anywhere else: $499 for an audit, retainers from $750 a month, and a full programme with paid search at $2,500. The consulting page has what each one covers. I do not price by postcode.
